“The Underside of Meursault 2025, a cheeky visit“ tour
Presentation
A stroll through the vast cellars of Meursault invites you to discover the "underside" of the village: as early as the 11th century, the Cîteaux Monks settled in Meursault, where they harvested white wine for mass and built cellars, wineries and barns. These buildings were constructed in the late 12th century, notably in the grounds of the current Château de Cîteaux, with magnificent vaulted cellars you can enjoy discovering.
The cellars of Domaine Delagrange transport you back to the 15th century: they already housed the wines of the Duchy of Burgundy at that time, and have the distinction of being built over two storeys, a rare type of architecture in Côte-d'Or.
As for Domaine Ropiteau’s cellars, dating from the 15th and 17th centuries, located in Meursault on the former grounds of the Hospices de Beaune, they are among the most prestigious in the region, with 900 barrels ageing in the cellars.
Finally, Cellier Robert de Grancey - Meursault Town Hall: a former fortified château built in 1337, where several scenes from the film "La Grande Vadrouille" (1966) starring Bourvil and Louis de Funès were filmed, stands on a wonderful 14th-century cellar. You can also discover the building's birth certificate on one of its foundation stones.
At the end of this guided tour, there’s a tasting of Meursault to delight your taste buds and caress your palate with its subtle, enchanting aromas.
